You may understand why you struggle—and still find yourself repeating the same patterns. You know you deserve better, yet you continue to question yourself, seek approval, overgive, or feel responsible for everyone else’s emotions. Even when you’re doing well, an inner voice may insist that you’re falling behind, disappointing someone, or simply not enough.
Perhaps you learned early that love, safety, or belonging depended on being helpful, successful, agreeable, or easy to care for. You may have become the responsible one, the peacekeeper, the high achiever, or the person who never needed too much. These roles may have helped you feel safe and connected growing up, but now they can leave you disconnected from your needs, unsure of your worth, and exhausted from trying to earn what should never have required proving.
For queer women, lesbians, bisexual people, and trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming people who identify with or feel at home within the sapphic experience, these wounds may also be shaped by identity-based shame, rejection, religious messages, family expectations, or growing up without affirming reflections of who you are. You may have learned to hide, perform, minimize yourself, or question whether the most authentic parts of you were truly welcome.
Inner-child healing helps you understand the younger parts of you that still carry fear, shame, loneliness, or the belief that you must change yourself to be loved. Using IFS-informed parts work, attachment-based therapy, nervous-system support, and self-compassion, we’ll gently explore how these experiences continue to shape your inner critic, boundaries, relationships, and sense of self. Together, we’ll help the protective parts of you feel safer while building new ways of responding to yourself and your life.
This work isn’t about blaming your family, remaining stuck in the past, or endlessly analyzing what happened. It’s about giving yourself the understanding, protection, encouragement, and care you may not have consistently received—and allowing those experiences to transform how you live today. You can learn to trust your feelings, honor your needs, set boundaries, receive love, pursue what you desire, and make choices rooted in your truth.
You don’t have to become more accomplished, desirable, productive, or pleasing to finally be enough. Healing can help you release the identities you created to survive and reconnect with the person you were always meant to be.
Your worth was never something you had to earn. It has always belonged to you.
What Healing Can Look Like with Inner Child & Self-Worth Therapy
A quieter, kinder inner voice — Instead of criticizing yourself for every mistake, emotion, or perceived shortcoming, you can learn to respond with understanding. Therapy can help you recognize the inner critic as a protective voice—not the truth about who you are.
Self-worth that doesn’t have to be earned — Your value isn’t determined by how productive, successful, pleasing, attractive, or helpful you are. Healing can help you feel worthy even when you’re resting, struggling, disappointing someone, or simply being human.
The freedom to have needs — If you learned that your needs were inconvenient or “too much,” expressing them may feel uncomfortable. You can learn to identify what you need, ask for support, and receive care without shame or apology.
Boundaries without feeling like the bad person — Setting a limit doesn’t make you selfish or unloving. Inner-child healing can help you tolerate someone else’s disappointment while remaining loyal to yourself.
Relationships that don’t require you to perform — You no longer have to overgive, shape-shift, hide parts of yourself, or manage everyone’s emotions to feel secure. You can build relationships where you are known, valued, and loved as your authentic self.
Compassion for the parts of you that are still hurting — The younger parts of you may still carry fear, shame, loneliness, or grief. Rather than pushing them away, you can learn to understand what they need and offer the safety and care they may not have received before.
Confidence in your feelings and choices — When you stop looking outside yourself for permission and approval, it becomes easier to trust your emotions, honor your intuition, and make decisions aligned with who you genuinely are.
The courage to take up space — Healing can help you release the belief that you must stay quiet, agreeable, or small to belong. You can express yourself, pursue your desires, and allow the fullest version of you to be seen.
A relationship with yourself that feels like home — Over time, you can become the safe, loving, dependable person your younger self needed. You don’t have to abandon yourself when life becomes difficult—you can learn to remain firmly and compassionately on your own side.
Learn More About Your Inner Child Healing & Self-Worth Therapist in Denver, CO
Maybe you’ve spent years trying to become the person everyone else needed you to be. You learned to stay agreeable, achieve more, care for others, or hide the parts of yourself that felt difficult to explain. Even now, you may struggle to recognize your own needs, trust your feelings, or believe you’re worthy without first proving your value. You understand where these patterns began—but knowing the reason hasn’t necessarily helped you feel differently.
Hi, I’m Katie, and I provide inner-child healing and self-worth therapy for queer women, lesbians, bisexual people, and trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming people who identify with or feel at home within the sapphic experience. I help highly sensitive, heart-centered adults understand how earlier experiences of rejection, criticism, emotional inconsistency, identity-based shame, or unmet needs continue to shape their inner critic, boundaries, relationships, and sense of self.
Using IFS-informed parts work, attachment-based therapy, inner-child healing, nervous-system support, and self-compassion, we’ll gently connect with the younger parts of you that learned they had to perform, please, achieve, or stay small to remain safe and loved. Rather than judging the patterns that helped you survive, we’ll understand what they’ve been protecting and help you develop new ways of caring for yourself in the present.
Our work may include softening your inner critic, identifying and expressing your needs, setting boundaries without overwhelming guilt, healing shame, trusting your emotions, and learning to receive love and support without feeling that you must earn it. This isn’t about blaming your past or changing the sensitive, caring person you are. It’s about helping you become securely rooted in your inherent worth.
My hope is that you begin to feel less responsible for proving that you belong—and more confident taking up space as your authentic self. You can become the safe, compassionate, and dependable person your younger self needed while creating a life and relationships that honor who you are now.
Your worth was never something you had to earn. It has always belonged to you.
Inner Child Healing & Self-Worth Therapy FAQ
-
Inner-child healing explores how earlier experiences may still influence your beliefs, emotions, relationships, and protective patterns today. Therapy helps you understand the younger parts of yourself that carry fear, shame, loneliness, or unmet needs—and respond to them with the safety and compassion they deserve.
-
Not at all. You don’t need a clear memory of every experience or a dramatic childhood story. We can begin with the patterns, emotions, beliefs, and triggers showing up in your life now and gently explore their roots at a pace that feels safe.
-
No. The goal isn’t to assign blame or decide that everything in your childhood was harmful. It’s to honestly understand how your experiences shaped you, honor what you needed, and develop healthier ways of caring for yourself today.
-
Therapy can help you recognize the beliefs that taught you to measure your worth through achievement, approval, productivity, appearance, or being needed. Together, we’ll soften your inner critic, strengthen self-trust, and help you experience your worth as something inherent—not something you must continually earn.
-
Inner-child healing should not mean pushing you into painful memories before you feel ready. We’ll move at your pace, support your nervous system, and build emotional safety throughout the process. You remain in control of what you share and where our work goes.
